Today, I had a call from my school friend. He mentioned the schools are over now and summer has started. He needs to plan a vacation for his kids, and it made me reminisce about my own childhood. I remembered how excited I used to get for the summer holidays.

As I close my eyes and think back to my childhood, there is one particular time of the year that always stands out in my mind — summer. As soon as the final school bell rang, I knew that it was the start of three months of pure freedom. No more waking up early, no more worrying about exams or homework, and no more studying.

Summer was the season of cricket for me and my friends. We would spend our afternoons playing in the streets, competing against each other, and feeling the sweat on our brows. My parents never objected to my cricket time, they would often encourage me to go outside and play with my friends.

For one month of summer vacation, I would go to my uncle’s place. My cousins and I would gather together, and it felt like the world was ours to explore. We would spend our days playing video games, eating junk food, and having long conversations about nothing in particular. Sometimes, we would visit my uncle’s village and go to the farms, where we would spend the entire day under the mango trees, eating the sweet and juicy mangoes. Those days were always filled with laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories.

Now that I am an adult and it’s always about work, but when I see children excited about summer, it reminds me of my own cherished memories. I may not be able to experience those carefree days again, but I will always hold onto those memories of summer and cherish them for the rest of my life.
